Women's Evening Wear- Fall Winter 2019
Role
Lead designer, pattern maker, and couture sewist
Self-Destruction is a 14-look eveningwear collection that critiques the pressure women face to shrink themselves—physically and emotionally—to meet impossible beauty standards. Using burlap, recycled denim, embroidered lace, and rich silks in pink and burgundy, I constructed each look as a visual and emotional contrast between discomfort and aspiration.
Measuring tapes, used throughout as trims and later as full garments, symbolized society’s obsession with numbers and control. I developed custom patterns and sewed each piece by hand, incorporating hand embroidery and beading to juxtapose raw, utilitarian materials with traditional beauty codes. The final looks, crafted entirely from measuring tapes, served as a statement to reclaim the narrative around our bodies. Self-Destruction invited viewers to question the ideal and embrace the truth of individuality and self-worth.
